### Homemade African Black Soap Recipe

**Ingredients:**

- 1 cup raw shea butter

- 1 cup cocoa butter

- 1 cup palm kernel oil

- 1 cup coconut oil

- 1 cup plantain skin ashes (dried and powdered)

- 1/2 cup cocoa pod powder

- Water (for mixing)

**Tools:**

- Large mixing bowl

- Double boiler or pot for melting oils

- Wooden spoon or spatula

- Soap molds or a baking dish lined with parchment paper

**Steps:**

1. **Prepare plantain skin ashes:** Collect dried plantain skins and burn them until they turn into ashes. Grind or pound the ashes into a fine powder. Ensure they are completely dry before use.

2. **Melt oils:** In a double boiler or a pot over low heat, melt the shea butter, cocoa butter, palm kernel oil, and coconut oil together. Stir occasionally with a wooden spoon until fully melted.

3. **Prepare the lye solution:** Wear gloves and safety goggles. In a separate container, mix the plantain skin ashes with water to create a paste. Gradually add water while stirring until the mixture achieves a smooth consistency. This mixture will create lye.

4. **Combine the lye with melted oils:** Slowly add the plantain skin ashes lye mixture to the melted oils. Stir continuously with a wooden spoon or spatula.

5. **Add cocoa pod powder:** Once combined, add the cocoa pod powder to the mixture and continue stirring thoroughly.

6. **Mix thoroughly:** Keep stirring until the mixture thickens and reaches a pudding-like consistency.

7. **Pour into molds:** Pour the soap mixture into soap molds or a baking dish lined with parchment paper.

8. **Allow it to set:** Let the soap sit in the molds or dish for about 24-48 hours to harden.

9. **Cut and cure:** After the soap has hardened, cut it into bars if using a large dish. Allow the bars to cure in a cool, dry place for at least 2-4 weeks, turning them occasionally.

African black soap is renowned for its natural and gentle cleansing properties. This homemade version combines various natural oils and plant-based ingredients to create a cleansing bar with potential benefits for the skin.
